Dr. John Copeland
Professor of Business

John D. Copeland was Executive Vice President for Ethics for Tyson Foods, Inc.in Springdale, AR. from 1998 until Jan. 2003. He still works with Tyson as a consultant. Following years of private law practice in Texas and Arkansas, he directed the National Center for Agricultural Law Research and Information and was a Research Professor of Law at the University of Arkansas School of Law, from 1989 to August 1998.

He received his Juris Doctor from Southern Methodist University and his Master of Laws in Agricultural Law from the University of Arkansas. He holds a Doctorate in the Administration of Higher Education from the University of Arkansas. He has authored numerous publications on such topics as business ethics, employer-employee relations, environmental law, insurance coverage, products liability, food safety, workers' compensation and zoning. Dr. Copeland has twice received the American Agricultural Law Association's Award of Excellence for Professional Scholarship, as well as the University of Arkansas' Doctoral Dissertation of the Year Award. In 2201, the Center for Business Ethics, Bentley College, Waltham, Massachusetts, recognized him as an outstanding ethics officer by naming him an Ernest A. Kallman Executive Fellow.

Since 1989, Dr. Copeland has presented approximately 200 lectures at symposia throughout the U.S. and Scotland for universities, Organizations, and businesses. He is listed in Who's Who in American Law. Dr. Copeland is a member of the State bars of Texas and Arkansas. He is also admitted to practice before the U.S. District Courts for the Northern District of Texas, The Eastern and Western Districts of AR, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals and the U.S. Supreme Court. He is presently Executive in Residence at the Donald G. Soderquist Center for business Leadership and Ethics and Professor of Business at John Brown University.

He and his wife, Vannette, currently reside in Springdale, AR but are planning to move to Siloam Springs. He has two sons, Aaron 27 and Seth 25 and a daughter, Sarah 24.
