Dr. Cary Balzer
Director of Faculty Development
Cary Balzer is a graduate of Seattle Pacific University with a Communication degree. He received a Masters of Divinity Degree from Asbury Theological Seminary and a Masters of Theology from the University of Manchester, England. He wrote a dissertation on John Wesley’s concept of salvation entitled John Wesley's Developing Soteriology and the Influence of the Caroline Divines in order to complete his doctoral degree at the University of Manchester.
Cary, his wife Tracy, and their two daughters, Kelsey and Langley, served the Free Methodist Church in the Seattle area for nine years in pastoral ministry, before coming to John Brown University. He and his family now attend Christian Community Fellowship in Siloam Springs, where he and Tracy help to lead the College ministry.
Dr. Balzer teaches Essentials of Evangelical Theology, Christian Ethics, and a new course on the theology of C.S. Lewis, entitled Behind the Wardrobe. He enjoys using film clips and small group discussion in class.
During the summers of 2000 and 2004 the Balzers led the Irish Study Program on a five week trip to Northern Ireland and Dublin. They fell in love with the spectacular scenery and the Irish people.
Cary enjoys hiking, and boating with his family in the beautiful Ozarks, as well as reading science fiction novels and walking his dogs Millie and McDuff.
