JBU Student Photography Exhibit to Raise Funds for Water Project
SILOAM SPRINGS, Arkansas (Oct. 28, 2019) – Spencer Theobald, a junior photography major at John Brown University, opens his gallery exhibit "unfiltered." on Nov. 1 at the Windgate Visual Arts West gallery at JBU. The exhibit will be on display until Nov. 17.
Theobald designed the exhibit, which features photographs from his recent trip to Haiti and Guatemala, to bring awareness to the water crisis affecting these countries. By making the photographs available for purchase, he hopes the exhibit will fund a clean water project through ENACTUS JBU's Guatemala Water Project (GWP).
"Through traveling to multiple third world countries in Central America, my experiences have begged me to ask the question, 'How is there so much joy in the people that have so little?'" Theobald said.
Theobald, who serves as head of marketing for ENACTUS JBU, hopes to have additional exhibits in Northwest Arkansas to raise the $25,000 needed to fund a water store that will impact 5,000 people living in Chiquix, Guatemala.
The 35 framed images in the exhibit will be available for purchase and priced from $50-$1,000.
The GWP provides clean water to communities all across Guatemala and has been teaching the importance of sanitation, preventing water-borne diseases and providing sustainable jobs year after year. The GWP has projects in six communities in Guatemala, helping 26,000 people. ENACTUS JBU has agreed to match the proceeds of Theobald's exhibit, up to $12,000.
